What People Are Saying about Law of Reflection

“Law of Reflection is an autobiographical coming of age work that traces the emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of a young man growing into adulthood. The voice in this story is so open, so honest, so sincere and so compassionate that I just couldn't put the book down and finished reading it in two days. The author uses years of journaling to chronicle his passage from a very young small-town teen on the cusp of his sexual awareness to a mature, experienced , world traveler who has immersed himself in Tibetan Buddhism. The path of his journey makes fascinating reading. The author's early struggles with depression, anxiety and heartbreak give way to confidence and self-acceptance, leading to a world view of Buddhist compassion for all living things. A natural storyteller, the author pulls us into his life to experience the trauma of a cruel step-father, his mother's death, failed relationships and despair. We meet his friends and see how his openness to new experiences eventually leads him to Buddhist teachings, where he finds the compassion needed to forgive his own failings and to develop true gentle compassion for those of others. I loved this book and highly recommend it.”

—Mary Ellen Silk

“I wholeheartedly enjoyed reading, Law of Reflection. Marc bravely, openly, and honestly shares himself and illustrates the experiences in his life that shaped him and I immediately felt a connection to him.

I have been studying Buddhist philosophy for years and the way that he illustrates how the Dharma and Buddhist philosophy have healed him and have changed his way of thinking and being can AND will benefit anyone who opens their heart and mind to reading and listening to his words.

This is not a ‘How to be a better Buddhist’ book. Anyone from any ‘religion’ or no ‘religion’ at all can learn from this book and enhance the quality of their own life and whole being.”

— Andrea Furlong

“I love reading memoirs, and this book is one of the best! Marc takes his readers on a journey from a small town in Indiana to the mountains of Nepal, keeping us fascinated with the details of both relatable traumas and the unfamiliar (to many) teachings of Buddhism and how he, like so many of us want, found a way to end his cycles of depression and learn to love life again. His story gives everyone hope that things really will get better, and that there is a way to make that happen for yourself, through the lens of the beautiful Tibetan Buddhism tradition. Whether you read for entertainment or enlightenment, I highly recommend this book.”

This is my story, not the words of an expert philosopher, but as someone who has devoted himself to the Dharma and committed himself to helping improve the happiness and reduce the suffering of those around him.

Law of Reflection is my relationship with the Dharma. In this book, I recount spinning in circles of depression, discovering the Dharma and the compassionate culture of the Tibetan people, as well as life-changing experiences and “synchronicities” along my journey of healing through the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism in corresponding book sections. Those are:

Dukkha, or suffering,

Samodhaya, or the cause of suffering,

Nirodha, or the cessation of suffering, and

Marga, the path to the cessation of suffering.

Law of Reflection offers novices an introduction and veterans a refresher to the Dharma through my personal stories. Enjoy your over-the-counter Dharma.
